Most programs are for people aged 18 to 30, but some, like Canada and New Zealand, extend the upper age limit to 35. The maximum stay is typically up to 12 months.

The financial requirements and application fees vary. For Australia, you need about AUD5,000 in funds and the fee is AUD840.00. For Canada, the fees total CAN$184.75 plus CAN$100, with required funds of CAN$2,500. New Zealand requires proof of NZD $4,200, while Ireland requires €1,500 if you have a return ticket, or €3,000 without one. Some programs have an annual quota, such as Australia’s 3,400 first visas and Ireland’s 200.

When reviewing the requirements, note the specific conditions for certain countries. The Australian Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) requires you to have a tertiary qualification and prove at least Functional English, for example with an IELTS average band of 4.5. For Ireland, applications are processed in two rounds of 100, and only the first 100 emails in each round secure an appointment. The program for Japan requires that you currently live in the country of your nationality. Canada’s International Experience Canada (IEC) program allows Chilean citizens to participate twice.

This page covers the destinations in this directory only: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Japan, Germany, Hong Kong, South Korea. Singapore’s Work Holiday Programme is left out here because it depends on where your university is, not on your passport; see the Singapore sheet. A destination missing here may still run a program for your passport; check its official immigration site.
